Unerboden and the Gulispur XC-Ski Trail
Unerboden: On a clear day, between Christmas and New Year's, we drove to Unerboden, which is south and east of Luzern. On a map, it looks like just over 50 miles away, but on the winding roads, is about a 2.5 hour drive. The drive up to the Unerboden area takes many switch-backs on a narrow snow-packed road. We passed one car that had worn tires, couldn't grip well enough to go on the steep parts, they had turn back. Underboden valley has 'walls on both sides, what is believed to be the longest Alp in Switzerland running along the north side. The south wall is less sheer and can be hiked and Sledged. They guarantee snow in Dec-Feb, because the sun's angle can't get into the valley in dead of winter. There is a gondola lift on the south side, which the Sledgers use, and slide down the hiking trail: The valley has lots of sled-dog activity: Just beyond this little town, there is the Klausenpasse, which is closed in winter...
