Lucern

Today we drove to Lucern. We got a little earlier start today as we didn't want to end up in the dark again. We found out that we are both a little sore today from our hike yesterday, so we ended up doing less hiking and more site seeing today.
We took a cogwheel train up to Pilatus Mountain. This is the world's steepest cogwheel railway. (48% grade) The name Pilatus may be named from a medieval legend that said dragons with healing powers lived in the mountain. On a clear day the mountain offers a panoramic view of 73 Alpine Peaks. Summer of course offers lots of hiking, winter skiing.
The view from the top was amazing. So glad we didn't hike it today. Mark was there this summer. He didn't hike up but he did hike down it. Took him over 3 hours to hike down, and of course with those sore toes again from the steep decline. We may hike it one day but we would have to allow at least 6 hours to go up. We saw lots of hikers hiking it today.
Restaurant and hotel area at the top. We did hike around on the top of the mountain and saw many great views. We had a late lunch up there. We both had the brats. The Swiss are known for their sausages. They were good.
We did climb to this peak. Half of the trail was a easy hike and the second half was pretty rocky.
We did not hang glide, but a lot of people do this all over the places we have hiked so far. Wouldn't mind trying it as a tandem flight with a professional. Looks like so much fun and imagine the view they get!
We took a gondola down the mountain, then we had to take a bus and train back to our car.
