Biking around Lake Thun
Biking around Lake Thun, June 2nd 2018.
The perimeter roads around Lake Thun are about 50km. Our ride was a bit longer, thanks to navigational issues. We found a route on the internet, to avoid busy roads. We may have wandered off that route, as we ended up climbing, going through the woods a bit more than we bargained for.
Here's our map:
The starting point was an elevated little town, Sigriswil. The ride started with a foot bridge we walked our bikes across. The view from the bridge was great.
Then we got a little off the beaten trail. We were looking for Oberhofen, and found it, but went through the woods to get there. Susan rode through all conditions, but she drew the line on riding down stair steps.
We had some good views of the lake from that bike (hiking) trail.
Our first (and only) big town, was Thun. It looked so much better than when we visited it in winter.
After Thun, we headed along the opposite side of the lake from our starting point, eventually toward the evasive town, Krattigen. Not sure why that town was on the course, its 1000 vertical feet above the lake. But, it made for a nice biker's challenge, and a terrific view of the lake (hmm, that's why it is on the course?).
After making the end of the lake in Interlacken, we were 3/4 the way around, and did most of that ride at lake level, on a slow traffic roadway along the steep rock wall shoreline,
The ride after Interlocken was mostly level, until we got to the spot where we had to climb back up Sigriswil, where we parked the car:
