Innsbruck, Austria


This was a driving trip from Switzerland, through Liechtenstein, to Innsbruck, Austria.

It is a beautiful drive in all (3) countries.  We arrived on a Saturday afternoon.  These are photos of the old-town area:

Our second day in Innsbruck, we hiked up to the Alpenzoo 2500ft.  From there we took a funicular (cable car) up to Hungerburg, 3000ft.  Then a gondola ride up to Seegrube, 6300ft.  There were clouds at about 6000ft, so we were right up against the 'ceiling'.

The clouds were stuck and never cleared that afternoon.

LeMont Saint Michel Built on an island off the north coast of France, Normandy area.  It has been a monastery since the 8th century.  Much of the structure was in place by the 12th century.  We visited at low tide and people could walk from shore to the island. This was the view of it, from about 2 miles away, in from our car: Below shows the trail we followed to walk out there: On the shore-side of the island, the village buildings have become tourist shops and restaurants, got that seagull in this photo! In the background of the photo below, you can see the 'pilgrims' making a journey from shore, across the bay.  Pretty easy that day.  Many days it is not possible or at least not advised.

International job opportunity. #2

Monday, October 9th, 2017 Welcome to our Swiss blog. A little history of what has happened prior to this move. Mark was offered a 18 month project opportunity in Europe, obviously we took the opportunity as we are here. This occurred in May. Mark spent most of the summer in France and Switzerland working. Meanwhile the moving process was off to a very slow start. He was waiting for official job approval, a work permit and then our Visa’s. Finally in October we are here. We left Minneapolis on October 7th  (Saturday) and arrived the 8th (Sunday). Our flight was from Minneapolis to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Zurich. From Zurich a train to Bern.  At  the Bern train station we took a cab to the hotel.  We spent our first night in the city of Bern. I got a walking tour from Mark. For dinner we had some awesome pizza and pasta. On Monday, the 9th, we were met by a lady from Packimpex, 3M’s relocation service here in Switzerland. She took us to check into the Departme...

Jessica, Sara and Alex in Swiss : the Wengen Trip

Jessica, Sara and Alex in Swiss   the Wengen Trip Our (3) visitors arrived in Paris on Monday morning Jan15th, and we drove (with skis on top of the car) to Langenthal.  The next day we drove to the mountains.  Wengen is an elevated village (4100ft), accessible only by cog-wheel train. The train starts in Lauderbrunnen, which is the bottom of the valley shown in this picture below (we took this picture in December, standing in Wengen): The cog-wheel train stops in Wengen, and continues to Klein Scheidegg (6800ft). The weather was not very cooperative the (4) days were in the mountains. Low clouds, windy and snowing often.  We made the best of it.  We skied whenever the trains were running.  You could always get a train down the mountain, but often they closed the train to KleinScheidigg due to wind and snow. We rented a chalet in Wengen, which turned out to be are really nice place to stay in the mountains.  There was lots of spa...
